Clothes That Can Detect Stress

Designer clothes used to be worn only for body covering and for fashion. Now, scientists are teaming up with fashion designers to come up with a prototype jacket that features advanced technology to help the wearer cope up with psychological stress.

What does this garment, which looks like a hooded jacket, do aside from making the wearer look good? Well, the clothes are embedded with wireless sensors, a light emitting diode (LED) on the breast pocket, and built-in speakers in the hood. The sensors are able to sense the wearer’s mood by detecting symptoms of anxiety and stress such as increased heart rate and body temperature.

When these symptoms of stress are detected, the clothes will automatically connect to a database stored in a small computer in the linings of the garment. The computer then plays songs, displays and says inspiring words, and shows images to help the wearer cope up with the emotion he is presently feeling. Now who says that clothes are just for style, fashion, and protection?
